Two Lists, Two Different Things
The daily challenge is generated from the date, which means the grid you played this
morning is the exact grid everyone else played. That is what makes ranking those times
fair. Finish today's board and your time joins the ranking, with or without an account.
The best times below it come from free play on Beginner, Intermediate and Expert. Those
boards are random, so the list shows who plays and how fast rather than a fair contest.
Custom and no-guess boards are not ranked.
How Ranking Works
- Only cleared boards are ranked — hitting a mine does not produce a time
- On the daily board, one result per account and one per game, and the first one stands
- Without an account your entry shows as "unknown" until you add a name, once, within an hour
- Ties share a rank, so two identical times are both, say, third
- The server notes when each ranked game starts, so a time much shorter than it measured is refused
Tips for Faster Times
- Practice on Beginner mode to develop muscle memory
- Use chord clicking (reveal adjacent cells when all mines are flagged)
- Start from corners or edges for more information
- Don't flag every mine - sometimes it's faster to just avoid them
Frequently Asked Questions
Do I need an account to appear on the leaderboard?
No. Every finished daily board and every free-play win on Beginner, Intermediate or Expert is sent automatically. Without an account your entry shows as "unknown" until you add a name, which you can do once within an hour. Signed-in players appear under their account name.
How does the daily ranking work?
Everyone gets the same board each day, so the times compare directly. Only cleared boards are ranked, fastest first, and ties share a rank. Each account gets one result per board per day, and each game counts once, so there is no replaying until you like the number.
How are the times checked?
Your browser measures the time, and our server notes when your game started and when the result arrived. A time much shorter than the server measured is refused. Times faster than any human can play are refused too, and entries can be removed later if they do not hold up.
Why is my result not ranked?
A ranked game asks the server for a start time on its first click. If that request did not get through, for example because you were offline, the game plays normally but its time cannot be checked, so it is not ranked. A signed-in player's result is still saved and still counts as their one attempt that day.
How do free-play best times compare?
Free-play boards are random, so an easy board and a hard one sit side by side in the same list. That makes it a list of who plays and how fast, not a fair contest. The daily challenge is the fair one.
Do my times sync across devices?
Daily results follow your account if you have one. Your personal best per difficulty is kept in the browser you played in and shows under the board.
